Riding on a massive pro-incumbency wave, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is all set to return for the next term as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won more than 270 seats in the most populous Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, it is also the leading political party in Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur where the results of the Assembly Elections were also declared today. However, Aam Aadmi Party outshone all others winning 90+ seats in Punjab, clearing the way for Bhagwant Mann to become the Chief Minister of the state. Opposition Parties – Congress, SP and BSP among others have lost massively in these elections.
Sensex rallied high amid the news of the return of BJP, ending with 800 points gain. Benchmark indices BSE SENSEX and Nifty 50 ended higher for the third consecutive session, with the latter gaining 250 points. A stable government in five states and falling crude oil prices are some of the major reasons behind the gain.
Yogi Adityanath won his seat from Gorakhpur ensuring his return to the office for another 5 years. Political rival Samajwadi Party had to settle for second place with 127 seats while INC (Indian National Congress) and BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party) won 2 seats and 1 seat respectively. The winning party needs at least 202 seats to win the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
In his victory speech, Yogi Adityanath said that the people of Uttar Pradesh have voted for nationalism and good governance.
